Fèis Mhuile 2017

Another fantastic Fèis weekend was held in Bunessan 10-12th February. A slightly different format this year but all seemed to work well. Children were offered two disciplines which gave them more concentrated lessons and Adults were offered conversation, singing and place-names.

Vital Bus Service stays on the Road

The Ulva Ferry Community Bus on the Isle of Mull was in danger of being off the road this year, as the running costs of over £18,000 were not covered from fare income and the current grant runs out in March 2017. Scottish Sea Farms has stepped in with a Heart of the Community grant of over £9,000, which will cover half the running costs of this vital service. Helen MacDonald, Ulva Ferry Local Development Officer, said: “The support from Scottish Sea Farms will keep this essential bus on the road. The service enables residents to attend medical appointments, community events and make social trips, reducing isolation, particularly for those who have impaired mobility.”... more in the full issue

Dr MacLean to Leave Mull

We are shocked and saddened to hear that Dr Alex Maclean is leaving the 'all-island practice' - such as it now is, without the Ross of Mull and Iona. This means of course that the joint practice which covers the Tobermory and Salen surgeries will now be run by locums only, and that a total of 4 GPs are now sought for the island.
The only permanent GP in Mull & Iona is Dr Frank Teunisse, who runs the Bunessan surgery - however he is due to retire within the next few years. What a parlous state our local GP cover is in, after all the fine words bandied about during the Health and Care Review! .... more in the full issue
