Ferry Proposal

The Proposal that the additional vessel to ply on the Craignure-Oban route should be provided and operated by Isle of Mull Ferry Co Ltd as a Mull & Iona Community oriented service.
Some Muilleachs may have noticed that there has been no news about this proposal for many months.
The reason is that when we put forward our scheme to Transport Scotland they declined to offer support of any kind. This was despite the fact that we proposed a much higher standard of service than that provided by either the “Isle of Mull” or the “Coruisk”, with the vessel berthed at Craignure overnight and a cost structure which would have saved taxpayers at least £1,000,000 a year ... more in the full issue


Demise of oldest Eagles

The oldest white-tailed sea eagles in Britain who first landed on the Isle of Mull in the early 1980s are missing feared dead. Lochan and Misty, who are both believed to be 37 years old, haven't been seen since last summer.
Dave Sexton, RSPB officer for Mull, said he is certain the eagles, who had 39 chicks over the years, are dead.
He said: "They are not going to move to a new area at their age and I would have seen them if they were still here.
"I have seen them every year, but we haven't seen them since last year, so they are missing, presumed dead.."... more in the full issue

The recent Special General Meeting of South West Mull Development offered an opportunity to catch up with progress on the various projects SWMID is currently involved in and it is impressive to see how much has been achieved.
Columba Centre
There is exciting news here, as SWMID staff will shortly be moving into the Columba Centre in Fionnphort - the date is expected to be before the end of June. Initially SWMID will be leasing half of the building, with the intention of moving towards full acquisition within 5 years. There will already be space available for offices, hot-desking and 2 business units – official expressions of interest will be invited as soon as the move is completed.... more in the full issue
