Bunessan Show 2017

This year’s Bunessan Show was another great success, drawing a large crowd to view the exhibits and enjoy the attractions, and cementing its reputation as a very friendly show. As one of the sheep judges (Mr G Ross of Heatherlea, Ardgay) put it “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the day, there was not too much pressure and I was struck by the way the competitors shook hands afterwards - and the food laid on for the judges was out of this world!”
The show had all the ingredients of a good day out, with plenty to see and do. The main attraction, Robert Lafferty’s Motorbike and Cycle Trials, thrilled the crowd, especially with his ‘360 degree’ somersault, which he performed several times during the day. Chainsaw Pete impressed all with his two delicate carvings of otters, and visitors had the opportunity to participate in the Dog Flyball ... more in the full issue

Salen Show

The Salen Show is always a miracle of organisation, something like fitting a quart into a pint pot! It is difficult to imagine how so many exhibits and attractions can be squeezed into such a small space. This year’s show did not disappoint, with a huge number of stalls, from Mull Otter Group to Sgriob-Ruadh Farm’s ‘Guess the age of the piglets’! Maureen Dehany had dressed for the occasion as usual, collecting for Mull Musical Minds - this year in full clown outfit. When we met she was having a little trouble with her feet! Other attractions included chainsaw art and Laser Tag ... more in the full issue

Fastest lady in Scotland this year!

Our 29th running of the Mull Half Marathon on August 6th was a day for many PB’s. The day was overcast and with a slight tail wind the runners took advantage and ran in some great times! A regular supporter of our Half Marathon, Fionnuala Ross, Shettleston Harriers, was the first lady and second overall in the half marathon clocking 1:15:46, the fastest time run in Scotland this year!
The course record was still standing at the end of the day, set in 2015 at 1:09:01, by Robert Gilroy of Cambuslang Harriers. Robert crossed the line this year in first place in a time of 1:10:40. This means the CJL prize of £250 for beating the record is still up for grabs as we look forward to our 30th year in August 2018!... more in the full issue
