Ulva Housing Official Opening

The sun shone for the Ulva Ferry community on Saturday 18th November as they celebrated the official opening of Sealladh Loch Tuath by Michael Russell, MSP: the first designated affordable rental housing to be built on Mull’s west coast for many decades. Two new houses have been built as a joint venture between the Ulva School Community Association (USCA) and Mull and Iona Community Trust (MICT), and are situated right next to Ulva Primary School. The houses have been allocated to two young families, helping to repopulate Ulva Ferry and to improve the future sustainability of this fragile community... more in the full issue

GigaPlus Argyll hits the Buffers

It is with great regret that the Directors of GigaPlus Argyll Ltd (GPA) are announcing that, unless some greater flexibility is shown by government and its officials in a very short timescale, they intend to wind up the company, having exhausted all avenues of progression since the demise of AB Internet Ltd (ABI) in May 2017.
GPA was established when it became clear that there was no available plan to deliver high speed broadband to the rural and remote areas of the Argyll Islands, and was backed by promises of funding and technical support from Community Broadband Scotland (CBS)... more in the full issue

Ulva Buyout FAQ's

What are we doing?
We are trying to secure the island of Ulva and its associated holdings at Ulva Ferry for the Community of Ulva and North West Mull - now and for future generations.
Because we believe that the people who live and work in our community are best placed to decide how to run it for the common good. We believe strongly in the potential for social and economic rejuvenation of Ulva, including repopulation. We'd like to see the resident population back at the levels of 30 or 40 years ago when there were over 30 people living on the island.
What happens next?
An official valuation ordered by the Scottish Government should be published in mid December. At about the same time, a postal ballot will be going out to all voters in North West Mull asking whether they support the proposed buyout ... more in the full issue
