Articles etc. invited during Coronavirus Pandemic

The current 'lockdown' due to the coronavirus pandemic will affect the content of R&A, since there will be no events for the foreseeable future. We are therefore inviting our readers to contribute articles on any topic at all for inclusion - if possible something positive/cheerful! If you write fiction this is your moment!

Wall of Hope:
We are continuing our 'Wall of Hope' every month until it seems no longer necessary - just send your message of support for all our readers via email: or phone 01681 700710 by 19th of the month - there will be no charge.

Piping for Carers

Have you been joining in the 'clap for carers' on a Thursday evening at 8pm? This has been added to by pipers all over Scotland at 8.05pm, including members of Mull & Iona Pipe Band.
Pipe Major Calum MacDougall says: "On 10th April we had Neil, Innes and Iain MacCallum playing in Fionnphort, Archie and Logie Johnston at Lee, Aimee Clark in Oban and myself, my son John MacDougall and Elizabeth Paterson at Creich, playing on the road outside our houses observing social distancing. This is the first time John and Elizabeth have played in public under Covid-19 guidelines. I think Ann MacLellan's girls were playing in Bunessan too. All the videos are on Mull and Iona Pipe Band facebook page".... more in the full issue

Doctor's Mammoth Journey

By Moira Kerr
A doctor travelled over 1000 miles by land and sea to help islanders on Mull during the coronavirus lockdown.
Dr Jens Ludders, his wife, two children, and the family's two dogs, arrived on the island at the beginning of April after a mammoth journey.
The island has been manned by short term locums for the last five years but Dr Ludders has agreed to a longer contract, which will give the island stability in the months ahead.
The Mull community pulled out all the stops to arrange onward transport after the doctor and his family travelled from their home in Germany to board a ferry from Rotterdam to Hull, where they hired a car to get to to Glasgow.
Mull Councillor Mary-Jean Devon said: "They got the ferry at Rotterdam and managed to get hold of a hire car before they stopped hiring, but he had to drop that off in Glasgow, so he messaged Mull Crisis Management Group for support. "I phoned West Coast Motors and asked if they could send a bus to Glasgow to pick the family up and bring them to Oban and another member of the Mull Crisis Management Group organised Coastal Connections to take them from Oban to Mull by boat."... more in the full issue
