Articles etc. invited during Coronavirus Pandemic

The current 'lockdown' due to the coronavirus pandemic will affect the content of R&A, since there will be no events for the foreseeable future. We are therefore inviting our readers to contribute articles on any topic at all for inclusion - if possible something positive/cheerful! If you write fiction this is your moment!

Wall of Hope:
We are continuing our 'Wall of Hope' every month until it seems no longer necessary - just send your message of support for all our readers via email: editor@roundandaboutmull.co.uk or phone 01681 700710 by 19th of the month - there will be no charge.

See below for useful phone numbers for local help.

June issue 2020

Spoonville…. the story so far….

When lockdown first started a friend of mine in England posted a picture on Facebook of a group of spoony people that someone had started close to where I used to live many years ago. I loved the idea so my daughter Ella and I set up a Spoonville in Craignure, Mull which started off with 2 spoony residents. I posted on my Facebook that Craignure Spoonville was hoping to increase its population & spoon mania has grown from there.
Children and adults alike have been creating spoony characters & planting them during their exercise time. We have even received a spoon in the post all the way from Poland. Craignure now has a total of 47 spoons, 2 resident penguins, a ‘guard’ mole and a windmill. We have the Mayor of Spoonville which Ella modelled on Grandad Richard Dewar, Bart Spoonson, Spoony McMoo, Nigella Spoonson, Spongebob Spoonpants to name but a few.... more in the full issue

Radio Station for Mull

Mull has its own internet radio station, and it’s about to get much bigger! Called Mull Broadcasting, at the moment the weekly shows are all available on the internet at www.mixcloud.com/Mullbroadcasting.
It started as a response to the coronavirus lockdown when Ray Canham found himself furloughed from his job as a guide at Duart Castle. A lifelong music and radio fan, he grew up in East Anglia listening to the pirate stations anchored in the North Sea and used to do DJ mixes for an online platform, as well as occasional stints behind the decks DJ’ing for soul nights.
He decided to put his collection of music to good use when Mull and Iona were put in lockdown to provide a bit of family entertainment while people were not able to get out and about. Together with Gill Govan who set up the Mull Insider Art Facebook group a pilot episode was put together that attracted over 200 listeners ... more in the full issue

New 4G phone mast at Bendoran

If you live anywhere from Pennyghael westward to Fionnphort, and have been allowed out of house arrest, you will probably have seen that contractors are laying a fibre cable by the side of the road. You may have wondered whether R-100 was coming at last. Sadly this is not the case.
The cable is for a new EE 4G phone mast at Bendoran, just west of Bunessan. Planning consent was granted over a year ago:
https://publicaccess.argyll-bute.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=summary&keyVal=PNNEO3CHLJS00
The mast will be connected all the way back to Lochdon with fibre.... more in the full issue
